The Friends of Historic Comanche organization incorporated in 2002 and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of historic preservation, engaging in all activities necessary, useful, or expedient through operative measures to promote and preserve the history of the City and County of Comanche Texas.

The initial activity of the Friends organization was to assist the City of Comanche in the application for recognition and participation as a Texas Main Street city, and in securing a portion of the necessary funding to implement the program. The successes of the Comanche Main Street program have lead to their recognition as a “Nationally Accredited Main Street City.”

The Friends organization will provide continuous support of historic preservation through the gifts or acquisition of historical properties, and the restoration, maintenance and utilization of said properties to the benefit of the citizens of Comanche. Restoration and rehabilitation of the Comanche “Frisco” Depot is one such project that the Friends will pursue aggressively in 2007, upon receiving the designation as “one of Texas’ Most Endangered Places.”

In addition, Friends continues their support of community-wide efforts to commemorate the past through special theatrical presentations, musicals, and historical tours to foster a greater appreciation and knowledge of the history of Comanche.
